As reported earlier in the week, LA Galaxy are considering a transfer pursuit for Marco Reus. It is confirmed that the Germany international and Borussia Dortmund legend will look for a new adventure upon the expiry of his current contract. He has just one game to play, the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, then he will seek to settle down elsewhere.
However, Marco Reus is not the only player from the Bundesliga that the Galaxy should consider signing. In fact, the German top flight presents a golden opportunity for the Galaxy to bring some new players into their roster.
That said, here are 3 other Bundesliga free agents LA Galaxy must consider, alongside Marco Reus…
3 Bundesliga free agents LA Galaxy must consider, alongside Marco Reus
1. Mats Hummels
We must begin with the obvious. Considering LA Galaxy have already scouted a Borussia Dortmund player, they could also look to bring in his long-term teammate, Mats Hummels. After all, Marco Reus is not the only Borussia Dortmund legend who could be seeking a new adventure in the summer transfer window.
It must be said that the situation of Mats Hummels is a little different to Marco Reus’. The veteran defender is out of contract from the summer, but it remains to be seen whether or not BVB wish to keep him. According to a report from GGFN (h/t OneFootball), Borussia Dortmund will wait until after the UEFA Champions League final to decide on Hummels’ future.
It would not be a huge surprise to see Dortmund offer a new contract to Hummels after the final, regardless of the result. After all, the veteran defender scored a vital goal to send them to the final, against all odds.
Still, while Hummels’ future is up in the air, the Galaxy must absolutely consider his transfer. After all, he could be available for free and he would be an excellent addition to the roster.

Joseph Paintsil has been a standout since his debut with LA Galaxy at the start of the 2024 MLS season. His first game ended in a 1-1 draw against Inter Miami on February 25, and he quickly became a favorite of head coach Greg Vanney. Paintsil, a 26-year-old Ghanaian attacker, secured a starting spot in the first 13 matches of the season.
Paintsil’s impact on the field has been undeniable. He became a key figure in LA Galaxy’s offense, scoring four goals and providing five assists.
His performances were instrumental in the team’s early successes. However, in the 2-2 draw against Minnesota United last Wednesday night, he had to be subbed off due to an injury. He subsequently missed the 0-0 draw against Charlotte FC, ending an impressive streak of nearly 45 consecutive matches played for both LA Galaxy and his previous club, Genk.
This was Paintsil’s first missed game of the season, and Greg Vanney later explained that it was due to a muscle injury. Unfortunately, there’s no set timeline for his return.
In his absence, Uruguayan forward Diego Fagundez is expected to step up and fill the gap in the upcoming matches against Houston and Dallas at Dignity Health Sports Park.

“Joseph suffered a slight hamstring strain. It’s nothing too serious, but he’ll be out for a few weeks. We’ll see how quickly he responds to treatment, and we’ll evaluate his condition as he progresses,” Vanney said when asked about Paintsil’s condition.
“It’s tough for Joseph because after the season he had, he’s already played 44 or 45 matches since August with the clubs he’s been with. Unfortunately, he felt some pain in the last game and will need to rest until at least June. It’s a mandatory break, but it will be good for him to recharge and come back strong for the second half of the season,” Vanney added.
For Paintsil, this injury is a setback, but it also provides an opportunity to rest and recover after an intense run of matches. His absence will certainly be felt, but it’s also a chance for other players like Fagundez to showcase their skills and make an impact.
Looking ahead, LA Galaxy fans will be eager to see Paintsil back in action, contributing to the team’s goals and driving their playoff push. In the meantime, the team will rally and adapt, showing the depth and resilience needed to compete at the highest level. Here’s hoping Paintsil has a speedy recovery and returns even stronger to help LA Galaxy in their quest for success this season.

In a move that could electrify the MLS, LA Galaxy is reportedly interested in signing Marco Reus, the iconic German forward currently playing for Borussia Dortmund.
According to The Athletic (h/t Talk Galaxy), the Galaxy sees Reus as a marquee player who could significantly boost their attacking options and fan appeal. However, securing his signature won’t be straightforward, as there are obstacles on both the sporting and administrative fronts.

Marco Reus has been a stalwart for Borussia Dortmund, and his loyalty to the club has made him a legend in German football. Known for his incredible skill, vision, and leadership on the field, Reus has been pivotal in Dortmund’s successes over the past decade.
His potential move to LA Galaxy could be a game-changer for the team and the league, bringing a wealth of experience and talent to American soccer.
The Athletic’s report suggests that LA Galaxy is keen to bring Reus to the MLS, seeing him as a perfect fit for their squad. With his ability to play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder, Reus would offer versatility and creativity, complementing the team’s existing roster. His arrival would not only strengthen the Galaxy’s attack but also enhance the league’s profile, attracting more fans and media attention.

However, the path to securing Reus’s transfer is fraught with challenges. One significant hurdle is the MLS discovery rights system, which complicates the acquisition of international stars.
Discovery rights in MLS allow clubs to claim the exclusive right to negotiate with players not currently in the league. In this case, Charlotte FC holds the discovery rights for Marco Reus, and they are reportedly not interested in moving these rights to LA Galaxy.
Charlotte FC’s stance is understandable, given their own ambitions. They are actively trying to convince Reus to join their ranks, seeing him as a transformative player who could lead their team to new heights. With both clubs vying for his signature, the competition is fierce, and it adds another layer of complexity to the negotiations.
