Breaking news in the recruiting world once again made headlines on social media as another decommitment was announced for the 2025 class. Four-star wide receiver Malachi Toney, who was committed to Miami (FL) since August 22nd, 2023, is now back on the recruiting board, and teams such as Alabama, Oregon and Florida State are the top schools that stand out, per Hayes Fawcett of On3. Miami Hurricanes defensive back D’Yoni Hill (19) reacts after the game against the Virginia Tech Hokies.
This news comes not even a month after the American Heritage wide receiver reclassified to the 2025 class, the exact same thing that current Alabama receiver Ryan Williams did back in December 2023. According to On3, Toney had just come off a visit to Alabama, as he was in attendance for the Alabama win against Georgia.
With Alabama being a stand out school in Toney’s mind, it can be concluded that the performance the Tide put on helped seal Toney’s decision.
Toney is currently a Top 50 receiver in the 2025 class, and could turn into a vlaubale option once five-star commit Keelon Russell takes over for the incredible Jalen Milroe at quarterback next season.
