The 2024 season will be a make-or-break year for the New Orleans Saints. In the last three years, New Orleans is 25-26, missing the playoffs in all three seasons. What was supposed to be a smooth transition from the Drew Brees – Sean Payton era has been anything but. Now, the Saints are hoping to find success in 2024, or they’ll be entering another era soon.
In order for New Orleans to return to the playoffs, there were several priorities the team had to address this offseason. Among those priorities were improving the pass rushing, rebuilding the offensive line, and revamping the offense. The Saints addressed those three things by signing Chase Young, drafting Taliese Fuaga, and hiring Klint Kubiak as the team’s new offensive coordinator.
Now, as New Orleans makes its way through the offseason program, there are a few more things the team has to get ironed out to thrive once the season arrives. NFL writer Kevin Patra recently highlighted what should be No. 1 on the list of priorities that the Saints still must get figured out. Patra argued that quarterback Derek Carr and new offensive offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak getting on the same page should be the team’s top priority for the rest of the offseason.
Derek Carr and Klint Kubiak must be on the same page for Saints entering season
Detailing the biggest remaining offseason priority for all 32 teams, Patra identified how important the relationship between Carr and Kubiak is going to be for New Orleans. Patra argued that the Shanahan Scheme that Kubiak is bringing to town is a quarterback friendly offense that should set Derek Carr up for success. However, Carr must know what he’s doing in the offense for everyone to get the most out of it.
Patra concluded his spiel by echoing sentiments that many have said this offseason: if Carr and Kubiak can’t figure it out, and the Saints have another mediocre season, New Orleans could decide to move on from everyone, hitting the reset button.
