In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, four members of the softball team entered the transfer portal and the football team did not have a Top 10 graded returning offensive tackle according to Pro Football Focus.
Four softball players enter the transfer portal
It’s been two weeks since the Hokies softball team saw their season come to an end in the NCAA Tournament in the Los Angeles Regional. After beating San Diego State, Virginia Tech was three outs away from advancing to the championship game of the regional, but lost on a walk-off by UCLA, then had their season end to Grand Canyon a few hours later. Saturday, the Hokies had four players enter the transfer portal, with the biggest name being pitcher Lyndsey Grein. She shared the circle this season with Emma Lemley, going 12-5 with a 2.89 ERA in 106.2 innings pitcher. She walked 49 and struck out 134. This is a big loss for Tech.
Teagan Thrunk, who hit .273 with nine hits and 10 RBIs this season also entered the portal along with Maci Masters, who also hit .273 in seven games, and pitcher Molly Jacobson, who pitched in four games for Virginia Tech. As is the case with college sports in 2024, the Hokies will need to make additions ahead of the 2025 season the portal as well.
Virginia Tech has no Top 10 graded offensive tackles returning in 2024
Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry returns nearly his entire offensive line for 2024 and added Georgia State transfer Montavious Cunningham in the transfer portal, but the Hokies did not have an ACC offensive tackle returning grade high by Pro Football Focus College., Despite not having a tackle returning that graded out in the Top 10 in the ACC, the line should be good enough with the addiiton of Cunningham to be better this season with a year under thier belt.
