Injuries, injuries, injuries. Since spring training, the Diamondbacks have been unable to escape the injury bug. Whether it be up in the majors or down in Triple-A, nobody within the organization is safe from this plague.

After missing the first two months of the season due to a ruptured UCL tendon in his right thumb on March 27th, Jordan Lawlar was reinstated from the 60-day IL by the Reno Aces a mere five days ago.
But, in less than a week, the Diamondbacks’ #1 overall prospect has suffered yet another setback. While the extent of this injury has not been determined, as Lawlar will undergo MRIs on his hamstring, it was enough to remove the 21-year-old from the Aces’ game against the Sacramento River Cats on Saturday.
Before exiting, Lawlar was 3-5 at the plate, including four RBIs. In the field, he started at third base, potentially signaling that he is ready to move up as the Diamondbacks’ everyday third baseman by the end of the season. This speculation comes as the D-backs navigate the possibility of moving on from Eugenio Suarez, who they acquired last offseason but has not met expectations.

Overall, since returning from his ruptured UCL, Lawlar has picked up a hit in all four games and has already collected two three-hit games.
The 21-year-old was drafted in the 1st round, 6th overall, in the 2021 MLB Draft. Lawlar made his major league debut last September, going 4-for-31 at the plate to wrap up the season. While he made the Diamondbacks‘ postseason roster as a pinch-runner, the shortstop did not make the D-backs’ 2024 Opening Day roster due to his thumb injury, which occurred a day before the roster announcement. Instead, Arizona opted for rookie Blaze Alexander to serve as the backup shortstop.
