Former Blue Scott Minto believes Enzo Maresca is “clearly a very good coach” but warned it’s “just about winning” at Chelsea.
Maresca signed a five year deal to replace Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer and will be tasked with bringing silverware to Stamford Bridge and getting the club back into the Champions League.
The Blues are currently in America on their pre-season tour with Maresca preparing for two friendlies this week against Wrexham on Wednesday and Celtic on Saturday.
Minto believes Maresca is a very good coach
The Italian has already overseen two weeks of pre-season training at the club’s Cobham base, so has had the opportunity to assess the players ahead of the tour and get his ideas across.
The friendlies will allow the 44-year-old to see how well the players have taken his ideas on board and how well they are able to implement them.
There have been positive reports about how Maresca has impressed Chelsea with the way he’s handled his first few weeks in charge and that players are enjoying his training sessions and hands on approach.
Former Blue Minto feels Maresca is a very good coach but warned at Chelsea it’s just about winning, and the Blues have now gone consecutive seasons without silverware.
“Maresca is clearly a very good coach,” he told talkSPORT.
“If he does hit the ground running, I am hearing good reports that the lads are enjoying his training, then there is every chance that he could do well.
“I like the style, I know Leicester fans were a little bit, we are seeing the same thing and we need to adjust, and sometimes, the Championship can be brutal, but let’s face it, they won it.
“They won the Championship, so you can’t keep all of the people happy all of the time.
“It’s going to be good football but Chelsea fans have been used to a certain way of play and winning for a couple of decades, and ultimately, that’s what it’s all about.
“It doesn’t matter what style is, it’s just about winning.”
