Additions of White and Ornelas as rosters grow
The Rangers have recalled Owen White and Jonathan Ornelas to be their initial September call-ups
With major league active rosters expanding to 28 players today, the Texas Rangers have recalled infielder Jonathan Ornelas and pitcher Owen White from AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers only had three position players in the minors who were on the 40 man roster, with Sam Huff and Dustin Harris being the other two. I don’t expect Ornelas to get much playing time while he is up, given that Justin Foscue was promoted yesterday, and Ezequiel Duran is hanging around and not getting much playing time as it is.
On the pitching side, Owen White is in the majors again, though it remains to be seen how long he stays up. Jack Leiter is expected to be recalled tomorrow to join the starting rotation, and so White could end up being sent right back down to make room for Leiter. Alternatively, the Rangers could want to get a look at how White, who has pitched better over the last month out of the Express bullpen, does in a similar role in the majors. Chase Anderson, who came up to replace Dane Dunning, would seem to be the likely roster casualty in that case.
