Arsenal may face disappointment in their pursuit of another transfer target at Euro 2024 following reports that German side Borussia Dortmund have approached Fenerbahce to sign left-back Ferdi Kadioglu this summer.
The Gunners suffered a setback in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko after the player decided to extend his stay in Germany by signing a new contract.
Mikel Arteta had seemingly pinpointed Sesko as his preferred striker target, with the Gunners confident of securing the Slovenian star. However, Sesko decided to stay at RB Leipzig and has since agreed to a new contract, leaving Arsenal to explore alternative options.
While reinforcing Arteta’s attacking line remains a priority, the need for added depth at left-back is also pressing. Both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney are potential departures, which would leave Arteta with only Jakub Kiwior in that position.
According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Borussia Dortmund have now made an official approach for one of Arsenal’s left-back targets, Ferdi Kadioglu of Fenerbahce.
Sabuncuoglu reports that Dortmund have formally moved to sign Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu. It was previously claimed that Arsenal had already agreed on terms with Kadioglu for a move to the Emirates Stadium. However, with Ian Maatsen seemingly on the verge of joining Aston Villa, Dortmund have shifted their focus to the Fenerbahce star.
The recent appointment of Jose Mourinho as Fenerbahce’s manager could complicate any potential transfer for Kadioglu. The left-back was a standout performer last season as Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the Super Lig title. Reports from Turkey indicate that Mourinho is determined to retain Kadioglu for at least one more year.
If Kadioglu pushes for a move, Fenerbahce is likely to demand around £26 million for the 24-year-old. Kadioglu notched up eight goal involvements in 51 appearances last season and offers versatility, being able to play in both full-back positions.
Currently, Kadioglu is representing Turkey at Euro 2024 and played the full 90 minutes in their 3-1 win over Georgia on Tuesday.
