People close to Todd Boehly’s side expect an outcome in the Chelsea ownership saga within the next two months according to The Athletic.
As always seems to be the case Chelsea can never stay out of the headlines for long and the news that Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s relationship has deteriorated to the point they want to buy each other out has given people plenty to talk about over the international break.
What Chelsea need more than anything is stability both on and off the pitch but this saga, which was first reported last Friday is going to seemingly dominate headlines for a while.
Boehly’s side expect ownership outcome in two months
Whilst it’s not a surprise to hear their relationship has deteriorated, the extent to which it has is certainly a shock and it appears Chelsea are set for yet more change at ownership level.
Reports have made it clear that Clearlake Capital and Eghbali, who own 62% of the club have no intention of selling their shares and are fully committed to Chelsea.
It’s believed Boehly could get the money together in order to buy them out, but right now a resolution doesn’t seem particularly close.
Inside Chelsea crisis;
– Boehly & Eghbali agreed at August meeting to explore alternative way forward
– Pair “barely on speaking terms”
– Both claim to wish to buy the other out; both say dont want to sell but Boehly side expect outcome within two months https://t.co/RFyuYT1IPk— Adam Crafton (@AdamCrafton_) September 9, 2024
Unless Clearlake and Eghbali have a change of heart it feels like the only way Boehly will remain at Chelsea is if he just accepts the direction the club is going in.
Ultimately something has to give on one side and a resolution is needed sooner rather than later as there’s a danger this saga could distract Enzo Maresca and the team.
The Athletic have reported that people close to Boehly’s side believe the picture will be much clearer in the next two months.
Bohely has taken a back seat from the day to day running of Chelsea since the beginning of last year and it seems he’s very much focused on the business side of things, whilst Eghbali and Jose Feliciano are the ones driving the major footballing decisions.
Regardless of the outcome this is the last thing the club need with all the turmoil thats taken place over the last couple of years, and whatever the decision is a solution needs to reached as quickly as possible.
