Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack recognizes the challenge posed by Georgia, particularly quarterback Carson Beck, in their upcoming matchup.
“Carson Beck is one of the best in college football right now,” Wommack stated on Monday. Although Georgia’s offense struggled in their last game, a narrow 13-12 win against Kentucky, Beck remains a significant threat.
Wommack praised Beck’s decision-making, noting his efficiency and low turnover rate. “He takes care of the football and excels in the intermediate game with great accuracy and a quick release,” he added. Wommack has studied Beck closely, watching every game over the past couple of years.
In last year’s SEC Championship, Beck completed 21 of 29 passes for 243 yards, along with a rushing touchdown. This season, he has completed 56 of 82 passes for 680 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception, and he has been sacked just once.
Wommack emphasized that Georgia’s offense effectively minimizes risks for Beck by quickly getting the ball out and establishing the run. “You need to play sound coverage while ensuring the quarterback can’t comfortably exploit long plays,” he said. He described Beck as “incredibly accurate” and a complete quarterback, stating, “He’s the best I’ve seen in the last couple of years.” Wommack highlighted the need to pressure Beck without compromising their coverage.
