The Cleveland Guardians and the Houston Astros didn’t play the game they had scheduled on Sunday due to inclement weather at Progressive Field.
The outcome of the game didn’t affect the American League seeding, though: the Guards are the AL’s second seed, which means their foe in the AL Division Series is now down to two teams.
“The seeding is set. The Guardians will play the winner of the Astros vs. Tigers in the ALDS, beginning Saturday,” Guardians insider Mandy Bell posted on X.

The Astros will play the red-hot Detroit Tigers in the best-of-three Wild Card series.
That one will start on Tuesday in Houston.
The winner of that matchup will play against the Guardians in a best-of-five affair.
The Guardians’ journey in the 2024 postseason will start on Saturday.
The rotation, however, is a mystery.
Tanner Bibee, who posted a 3.47 ERA during a solid regular season, is expected to take the ball in Game 1 on Saturday.
The team does have some options to follow him: Matthew Boyd was rock-solid in a few weeks with the Guards, Gavin Williams could work with or without an opener, and Ben Lively has had his moments.
Joey Cantillo has improved thanks to a special changeup, and Alex Cobb is expected to be available soon.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the Astros or Tigers: whoever wins that series will have to overcome the best bullpen this league has seen in quite some time.
With Emmanuel Clase, Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith all ready to rock, plus Nick Sandlin, Pedro Avila, Tim Herrin, Andrew Walters, and many others supporting them, the Guardians like their chances.
