The Indianapolis Colts signed safety Ronnie Harrison to their 53-man active roster on Monday, the NFL team announced.
Harrison takes the roster spot of safety Trevor Denbow, who was placed on injured reserve.
A former Alabama defensive back, Harrison was on the Colts’ practice squad. Harrison had 14 special-teams plays and one defensive snap as a practice-squad elevation in a 16-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 15 in his only action this season.
Harrison also began playing with the Colts last season as a member of the practice squad before being signed to the active roster. Harrison played in seven games, with three starts, in 2023.
Harrison entered the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 as a third-round draft choice from Alabama’s 2017 CFP national-championship team. He has played in 75 regular-season games, with 48 starts, and has seven interceptions in his career.
ALABAMA NFL ROUNDUP FOR WEEK 8
A former Alabama teammate of Harrison’s left an NFL roster on Monday. The Pittsburgh Steelers released cornerback Anthony Averett from their practice squad with an injury settlement.
Averett hasn’t played in an NFL game since Nov. 20, 2022, when his injury-affected lone season with the Las Vegas Raiders ended early. He’s been on the rosters of the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions and Steelers since then.
A senior starter for the Crimson Tide’s CFP national-championship team for the 2017 season, Averett entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 draft.
Averett played in 44 regular-season games, with 21 starts, for Baltimore in four seasons. After joining Las Vegas in free agency, Averett sustained a broken thumb and broken toe in 2022.
