With NFL free agency here, we saw a ton of moves made by teams yesterday and today, including some trades.
A bunch of running backs are on the move in the off-season, changing the landscape of the position before the draft.
One former Auburn Tiger is on the move as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded Carlton Davis to the Detroit Lions. The Lions also got a 2024 6th-round pick and a 2025 6th-round pick, while the Buccaneers received a 2024 3rd-round pick.
John Maakaron of All Lions had this to say about the Lions acquiring Davis, “The Lions had a pressing need at the position, as they struggled to find consistent contributions from players such as Cam Sutton, Jerry Jacobs, and Kindle Vildor. Now, Davis gives them a starting-caliber player on the outside.”
Some Lions fans believe Davis will fit well into the system that the Lions run, so the veteran corner could be in for a career season.
A year ago, Davis had 52 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended.
The former Auburn Tiger won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady in 2021. In this Super Bowl, he played alongside Jamel Dean, so the Buccaneers’ secondary was full of former Auburn Tigers.
The Lions lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship after making a magical run under head coach Dan Campbell.
Once again, the Lions have a chance to make a run to the Super Bowl, and the addition of Davis makes that more likely. The former Auburn corner will look to bring a Super Bowl to a city that desperately needs one.
