**Justin Simmons Shares His Thoughts on Russell Wilson**
During the 2022 offseason, the Denver Broncos traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, signing him to a five-year, $245 million deal. They had high hopes he would quickly turn the team into Super Bowl contenders, a sentiment shared by many fans.
However, the Broncos struggled on the field, missing the playoffs in both seasons, leading them to release Wilson this offseason in favor of rookie Bo Nix.
Former Broncos safety Justin Simmons defended Wilson, explaining that he faced significant adjustments after spending a decade with the Seattle Seahawks, according to G.O.A.T. Farm Show.
Wilson, who became the face of the Seahawks in 2012, led the team to a Super Bowl victory in just his second season. He made the Pro Bowl eight times during his Seattle tenure, but dissatisfaction with coaching changes and a declining team likely made his departure unavoidable.
Now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson was named the starter by head coach Mike Tomlin a few weeks ago, but he hasn’t played this year due to a calf strain.
Upon joining the Broncos, Wilson’s performance declined sharply, posting career lows with just 16 touchdowns and a completion rate of 60.5% in 2022. He was only slightly better the following season, prompting Denver to move on from him.
The trade, which involved three players and five draft picks, is now being viewed as one of the worst deals in recent NFL history.
