A young goaltender from the Montreal Canadiens, Yevgeni Volokhin, has indeed just been involved in a transaction.
The Canadiens will now have a new prospect to watch in the KHL this season.
Volokhin was part of a multi-team trade and is officially moving to HC Sochi (a team in the KHL).
This is good news for Volokhin and excellent for his development.
For now, it appears he will be the backup goalie behind Sergei Ivanov, but he is very talented and still young, so don’t be surprised if he eventually works his way up to the number one spot, much like a certain Igor Shesterkin did a few years ago.
A Trade for Montreal Canadiens Prospect Yevgeni Volokhin
He’s making the leap to the KHL! For a 19-year-old goaltender, this is quite an achievement, and he’s a name for Canadiens fans to keep in mind over the next few years.
“If he plays a game in the KHL this season, he will become the third Canadiens prospect to have played in Russia’s top league after Ivan Demidov and Bogdan Konyushkov.”
At 19 years old, Volokhin stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 167 pounds. He was a fifth-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 (144th overall) and has posted stellar stats in the MHL.
We’re talking about save percentages of 0.931 – 0.938 – 0.927 over the past three seasons, with goals-against averages of 1.95 – 1.57 – 2.12. (47 wins and 11 losses)
He could be another goaltending prodigy from his country.
