The NFL fined Bears linebacker $16,883 for unnecessary roughness due to a hip-drop tackle that injured Texans running back last Sunday, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
He will not play in the Texans’ upcoming game against the Vikings and won’t travel to Minnesota with the team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He is considered week-to-week with the injury.
NFL teams unanimously voted to ban hip-drop tackles, defined in the league’s rulebook as a maneuver where a defender wraps up a ball carrier and drops onto their legs while swiveling their hips.
In the game against the Texans, Edwards made eight total tackles and has recorded 23 tackles this season, along with one fumble recovery.
The Bears are set to face the Colts on Sunday.
