New York Rangers star goalie expressed concern regarding his contract negotiations during a recent press conference. As he enters the final year of his four-year, $22.67 million contract,He has been eligible for an extension since July 1, but no agreement has been made yet. He mentioned his desire to remain with the team long-term but acknowledged uncertainty about the outcome.
“I love the organization, the team, and the fans. Staying here would be fantastic, but you never know what might happen,” he said.
He emphasized that the contract situation isn’t affecting his performance, as he is letting his agent handle the discussions with the Rangers. “I have one more year. I’m not worried about it… That’s for my agent. I want to focus on my game and practice,” he added.
Since joining the Rangers in the 2019-20 season,he has established himself as one of the NHL’s top goalies, taking over as the starter in 2021-22. Last season, he recorded a 36-17-2 record with a 2.58 GAA and a .913 SV%.
Rangers general manager is committed to re-signing him, emphasizing the importance of the goalie to the team. Speaking at the Rangers’ training camp opening on September 17,he stated, “I won’t discuss private negotiations, but we all know how highly we regard Igor. We hope he remains a Ranger for a long time, as he’s crucial to our team.”

Looking ahead,he has set the goal for the Rangers to win the Stanley Cup, acknowledging that despite their strong performance last season—finishing with the best record but losing in the Conference Finals—they still seek that championship. “Our ultimate goal is to win the Cup. I’m always looking for ways to improve our chances each year, starting at training camp. I’m excited for a successful camp and a strong regular season to get us into the playoffs,” he said.
