Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark recently revived her playful habit of teasing teammate Sophie Cunningham, delivering a sharp but humorous remark on Cunningham’s latest Instagram post. The lighthearted exchange quickly caught the attention of fans, highlighting the strong bond between the two WNBA players.
The interaction began when Cunningham, who is known for sharing stylish and glamorous posts on social media, uploaded a collection of photos summarizing her February activities. Clark, who commands a massive following on Instagram, didn’t hesitate to join the conversation in the comments section. With her trademark wit, she jokingly questioned Cunningham’s profession, writing a sarcastic remark that asked whether she even plays basketball.
Cunningham responded just as quickly, firing back with a playful reply of her own and offering to send Clark a highlight reel as proof. The friendly banter reflects the chemistry the two teammates developed during their time together in Indiana. Their connection became particularly noticeable last season, especially after a widely circulated moment when Cunningham stepped in to defend Clark during an on-court confrontation, earning praise from fans for her loyalty.
Unfortunately, supporters didn’t get to see much of the duo sharing the court throughout the 2025 WNBA season. Both players struggled with injuries that limited their appearances. Clark’s second season ended early after only 13 games due to recurring soft-tissue problems, including a groin injury and a bone bruise. Before being sidelined, the reigning Rookie of the Year had been performing well, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5 rebounds per game.
Cunningham’s campaign was also cut short when she tore her MCL in August, ending her season after 30 appearances in which she averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. The timing of the injury was especially challenging as it occurred just before she entered unrestricted free agency following her one-year contract with the Fever. While she has expressed interest in staying with Indiana, the team will need to manage its salary cap carefully to make a reunion possible. Meanwhile, uncertainty looms over the entire league as negotiations between the WNBA and the players’ union over a new collective bargaining agreement threaten to delay the start of the 2026 season.
