Colwill has won four caps for the Three Lions and featured for Lee Carsley’s side during October’s international break. The 21-year-old won the u-21 European Championship under Carsley in 2023 and has earned an opportunity in the senior side under the interim boss.
Colwill’s inclusion is recognition of a solid start to the season at Chelsea, where he has started all seven Premier League games under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
After a mixed campaign last term, Colwill is featuring regularly in his preferred centre-back role and Winstanley says Chelsea have been delighted with his development.
After speculation surrounding the player’s future in 2023 and rejected bids from Brighton, Stewart said Chelsea are pleased to see Colwill progressing in West London.
“There was a little bit of a question mark about Levi’s future when we arrived and what that might be,” Stewart told The Telegraph.
“So, obviously, we’re delighted that he’s here and he’s playing and developing, and I think as long as he continues with the same approach and mentality, which we absolutely expect him to, I think you’ve got another regular England international there.
“So it’s about the players that have come in, but also some of the players that were here and Levi’s a really good example of that.”
