Filip Jorgensen Says ‘Yes’ to the Blues
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea have now “reached an agreement” with Jorgensen’s camp on personal terms for a long-term contract. A €20 million bid was sent to Villarreal earlier today (July 24) after the 22-year-old said “yes” to Chelsea last week.
Previously, it was reported that the Denmark U21 star was on a shortlist of four candidates to be a new goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge. However, Romano reveals that after Marseille’s interest in the player was revealed, Chelsea want to be fast in the deal. To rush into a transfer due to other clubs joining the race would be foolish, especially as it looks like the “top-performing” player could be starting in goal for the 2024/25 season.
How Can Filip Jorgensen Propel Chelsea to a Top-Four Finish?
Chelsea greatly struggled in the goalkeeper position last season despite signing two new players. Robert Sanchez joined from Brighton but didn’t play a Premier League minute in 2024. Whilst Dorde Petrovic impressed to an extent, his goals prevented sat at -6.7; this ranks him 38th out of 40 goalkeepers in the league.
However, the area in which Jorgensen will particularly help is his distribution. Enzo Maresca particularly likes his Number One to be more than competent with his feet, evidenced by Mads Hermansen’s role in Leicester’s EFL Championship title. Chelsea’s imminent signing had an impressive 62% success rate with his long passes last season and a 99% success rate for short passes.
Playing long and short will help Maresca’s side play through high presses, and potentially propel them to a top-four finish with Champions League football in 2025.
