Chelsea are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Manchester City midfielder James McAtee according to reports.
The Blues have been active in the transfer window so far and have signed Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu, with Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set to become the club’s fifth summer signing.
Chelsea are believed to still want to strengthen the squad and are reportedly looking for another attacking player and possibly a left back.
Chelsea interested in McAtee
The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea are one of a number of Premier League clubs who are interested in the 21-year-old City academy graduate.
McAtee has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, one in the Championship and the other last season as they finished and got relegated.
The report adds that City are aware of Chelsea’s interest and are planning on taking the midfielder on their pre-season tour of America, where they are actually scheduled to face the Blues.
In fact Enzo Maresca tried to sign McAtee whilst he was Leicester manager last season, but a move ultimately didn’t materialise.
McAtee has made seven first team appearances for City and is under contract at the Etihad until 2026, with the Daily Mail adding no decision is likely to be taken on his immediate future until Guardiola has had the chance to assess his progress.
It’s likely both Maresca and Joe Shields will know McAtee from their time at Manchester City, but given the options Chelsea have in midfield it wouldn’t make sense for the club to make an imminent move for McAtee as there simply isn’t room for him in the squad.
A number of young midfielders are expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with the club open to selling Cesare Casadei, whilst Lesley Ugochukwu is expected to leave on loan and a final decision has yet to be taken on Andrey Santos.
