Chelsea have become a steady source of income for The FA once again, with the club receiving, and accepting, a fine for the late-game scuffle that occurred in our 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest prior to the international break earlier this month.
For their part, Forest were fined three times as much as we were, and will have to pay £125,000, compared to Chelsea’s £40,000.
This was Chelsea’s first breach of the E20 improper behavior rule in over three years, since the match against Liverpool in August 2021. During that same span, Forest have been sanctioned no fewer than five (5!) times for similar infractions — thus their substantially larger fine (though still well short of the £500k maximum).
However, Chelsea have been paying into The FA’s coffers anyway for our habit of collecting yellow cards in games — or is it our habit of getting saddled with substandard referees? — and will reportedly pay £75k after getting another six (6) on Sunday from Random Decision Generator Simon Hooper against Newcastle United.
Told Chelsea will be fined £75,000 by the FA after becoming the first team in Premier League history to receive 6+ yellows in three games in a season. Takes their total to £150,000 for this term:

We have a strong seven-card lead in the yellow card standings over Southampton through the first nine games of the season. We’re the Max Verstappen of yellows.
When asked earlier this month about this habit, Enzo Maresca dismissed it with a joke. He’s not the one paying and it ain’t my money either! (And, unlike last year, it doesn’t feel like most of these yellows are just for petulant nonsense.)
You’re welcome, FA!

“I’m not going to pay, it’s not my problem!” 😂
