Chelsea have 46 senior men’s players profiled on their official website as of the start of August.
That total falls to 40 when discounting the players who do not have squad numbers ( Tino Anorjin, Kepa Arrizabalaga, David Datro Fofana, Bashir Humphreys, Caleb Wiley and Romelu Lukaku ). Several others will also seemingly depart before the summer transfer window closes, reducing the group new head coach Enzo Maresca has to work with even further.
However, here is how the squad depth looks at this stage of pre-season. football.london have also highlighted where the first team still needs strengthening over the next four weeks.

football.london ‘s verdict
There may be 13 forwards in the squad right now, but as many as five could move on over the coming weeks, either temporarily or permanently. It is also the only area of the team where there has been barely any movement, with the eventual departure of Hakim Ziyech and the sale of Omari Hutchinson the only outgoings, albeit both spent last season out on loan.
The club have rightly been linked with dozens of strikers this summer, with Samu Omorodion perhaps the most consistently mentioned name. A new left winger would be welcome, too, even if it is not Nico Williams.
