Noise has started back up this week regarding Chelsea’s interest in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. However, Chelsea also still have another forward in their sights.
Although it is unclear at the moment whether Chelsea would see this target as a striker or as a winger, because he can play in both positions.
The Osimhen stuff bubbles back up again, but it’s clear Chelsea are pondering opportunities and having a look at a few different options still.
But they want a new striker and a new winger before the window is up, if they can find opportunities to bring them in.
That is according to our writer Simon Phillips in his latest updates on his own Substack website.
Chelsea still eying Openda
According to the report, Chelsea are still keen on RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda, who bagged 28 goals in 44 games for his club last season.
Phillips writes: ‘The club are still looking to sign a new striker and a new winger should the opportunities arise, and as in my other sourced article today, Chelsea are currently talking to Napoli regarding a tough deal to try and sign Victor Osimhen.
‘That isn’t the only option they are looking at though, and SPTC sources have said again this week that Lois Openda of RB Leipzig remains on the Chelsea radar as a potential target for this summer or in the near future.
‘Sources mention him as a flexible target due to the fact that he can also play as a winger as well as a striker and naturally; he tends to drift wide when playing as a striker anyway. This season he has been playing as a second striker with Benjamin Sesko alongside him, and it is his wide play that has really seen him shine.’
