Chelsea target Marc Guiu is reportedly expected to confirm that he is joining the Blues after his release clause at Barcelona was activated. Todd Boehly has wasted little time in getting to work in the transfer market, having already sealed a few early deals.
Tosin Adarabioyo became Chelsea’s first summer signing earlier this month, joining on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal at Fulham. The west Londoners have also agreed a £51million deal for Palmeiras teenager Estevao Willian, who will move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2025.
Their next confirmed transfer is expected to be the signing of Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £19m. Chelsea have also been tipped to complete a move for Guiu despite Barcelona offering him a new and improved contract.
It was reported on Monday that Chelsea had triggered Guiu’s release clause of £5m, meaning they will not have to negotiate a transfer fee with Barcelona. It seems a move is already close to being finalised, with AS reporting that Guiu may bid farewell to the Catalan giants within hours.
Another report from Sport suggests that Chelsea are optimistic about signing Guiu but are yet to receive the final and definitive green light from the player’s camp. It is said that Guiu has already played his last game in a Barcelona shirt following his appearance for their reserve side against Cordoba on Sunday.
The teenage forward is said to be ‘very tempted’ by the prospect of joining Chelsea and has practically decided that his future lies away from Barcelona. It suggests that a move to Stamford Bridge is on the brink of being completed, which would make him Chelsea’s fourth summer signing.
Guiu was recently offered a new deal at Barcelona but looks set to reject the proposal in order to join Chelsea, who appear to have beaten Bayern Munich in the race for his signature. The German giants reportedly held productive talks over the weekend but are not expected to succeed in their pursuit of the striker.
He made his senior debut for Barcelona in October and appeared in seven games across all competitions last season. He chipped in with two goals, scoring the winner against Athletic Bilbao on his La Liga debut before finding the net in the Champions League in December.
