All-black everything? If you’re Coco Gauff, it’s more like all-gray every day.
The 20-year-old has unveiled the latest colorway for her signature shoe with New Balance, the Coco CG1, ahead of Roland Garros—and the former finalist’s new design is all about moody neutrals, with a nod to the brand’s heritage.

Set to launch on May 24th, this special-edition “Grey Days” CG1 stands out thanks to its hairy suede accenting and neutral details. A sand-colored sole featuring her father’s famous words (“You can change the world with your racquet”) offsets the range of subtle stone and off-white hues on the upper, tying the look together. The Grey Coco CG1 is expected to be the final drop in New Balance’s packed calendar during its annual Grey Day celebration. The color has become emblematic for the Boston-based sportswear giant since the gray was first introduced in its performance shoes back in the 1980s—a solution for athletes whose white sneakers couldn’t hold up to the city’s gritty conditions.
All month long, New Balance athletes from world No. 3 Gauff to Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard have been paying homage through their own gray sneakers and apparel, while cult-classic lifestyle models including 327, 574 and 550 have already received Grey colorways. Gauff’s shoe will officially bring the celebration to the Grand Slam stage, where the gray and beige design will be put to the ultimate test—both by the streets of Paris and the tournament’s infamously staining terre-battue surface.
The new shoe is set to be unveiled in person at “Coco’s Court”, a pop-up experience in Paris ahead of the start of Roland Garros. The pop-up will be open to the public from May 23-25, and will feature the American’s favorite treats and activities, bespoke apparel customization and a live DJ.
