Dylan Coghlan Signs One-Year Contract with Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenseman Dylan Coghlan to a one-year deal worth $775,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL. The deal also has a $250,000 guarantee to the contract.
The Winnipeg Jets acquired Coghlan from Carolina in exchange for future considerations, a harmless and simple trade between the Jets and Hurricanes. Coghlan, 26, stands at 6-foot-2 and shoots right as a defenseman, an incredibly hard-to-come-by trait in a defenseman with Coghlan’s ability.
The Duncan, British Columbia-born player turned pro in the 2018-19 season when he joined the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. In his professional debut season, he posted 40 points (15G, 25A) in 66 games which touted him for a world of success.
Prior to his professional career, Coghlan played for the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. Coghlan posted 145 points (38G, 107A) in 265 WHL games across four seasons. He also played in the BCHL for two games appearing for the Nanaimo Clippers where he did not post any points.
In his AHL career split between the Chicago Wolves and Springfield Thunderbirds, Coghlan has played 192 games across four seasons where he’s posted 108 points (44G, 64A) and 80 PIMs. He also has 106 NHL games on his resume for the Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes where he recorded 22 points (6G, 16A) in that time. Coghlan posted career highs across the board in the 2021-22 season where he appeared in 59 games, scored 13 points (3G, 10A), notched 18 PIMs and recorded a plus-minus of minus-five.
Coghlan most recently spent his 2023-24 season appearing in one game for the Carolina Hurricanes and in 61 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL. He recorded 41 points (16G, 25A) and 40 PIMs during this run before finding himself as a restricted free agent (RFA) this off-season. The Jets would acquire his signing rights and quickly ink him to a contract which will solidify their organizational depth.
