Interestingly enough, Fabrizio Romano keeps mentioning one name with Chelsea this summer even though it looks like, or has looked like, that potential move has been over.
Anything can happen in a transfer window though, and perhaps there is still a bit of hope for Chelsea fans who would love this deal to get done.
But it also looks like Nico Williams is destined to join Barcelona from Athletic Bilbao this summer after a fantastic Euros for Spain. Never say never though, and Romano certainly isn’t saying never.
He jumped on his latest PlayBack Show this weekend to report on transfers as he does daily, and he mentioned Williams and Chelsea again.
Not over until it’s over
Williams is Chelsea’s dream target, according to Romano.
He said: “Chelsea’s dream on the wing is Nico Williams but they know Barcelona are ahead and have a ‘match point’.
“Also, to activate options like Nico or Victor Osimhen, Chelsea still wants the overall package of the deal to be lower.”
I guess that could happen and it could be lowered, but I think the problem with the Williams one is that he actually just wants to join Barcelona. But it is now up to Barcelona to find the money to get this one over the line and then if they can’t, it does feel like Chelsea are waiting in the wings to pounce on it. Who is to say that Williams wont go to Chelsea if he cannot get a move to Barcelona?
But having said all of that, it is just my opinion that I feel his move to Barcelona is inevitable and will happen unfortunately. Chelsea will be left looking at other options in attack and to just see this as another one they’ve missed out on.
