New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton returned to practice at OTAs on Tuesday. The Giants’ leading receiver from 2023 has been holding out on joining the team in his quest for a contract extension. His showing at the voluntary workout was his first of the offseason. It was revealed on Thursday morning that an update to Slayton’s contract spurred his return to the team’s OTAs.

Slayton is approaching the final year of his two-year, $12 million deal in New York. The upcoming 2024 campaign will have a major sway on how much he is able to garner from the Giants or another team should he test the waters in the open market.
Giants give Slayton increased incentives for the 2024 season
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Slayton now has a chance to earn an extra $650,000 than his prior max compensation for 2024. He previously had $1.5 million available in incentives, but he now has $2.15 million in incentives available. This likely isn’t the ideal outcome Slayton was seeking, but it is a compromise that has returned him to the team’s facilities nonetheless.

For now, the Giants ought to feel good about their 770-yard receiver from a year ago running with their troops this spring. Slayton will have until the close of OTA’s on June 7 to get himself into shape for training camp.
New York has a talented pool of pass-catchers including No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt that Slayton can lead next season with his veteran leadership and model consistency.
