Good news: Jimmy Butler will be traded by the Miami Heat to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs are due for a big leap this year. They signed Chris Paul to a one-year contract, traded for veteran Harrison Barnes, and have one of the biggest rising stars in the NBA in Victor Wembanyama. Chris Paul is getting old but still has the ability to manage the game for a team, Harrison Barnes is the perfect role player for a contender, and Victor Wembanyama is a generational talent, so I believe the Spurs are one piece away from being a real contender, and Jimmy Butler is that missing piece.
Trade Proposal:
Spurs Receive: Jimmy Butler
Heat Receive: Devin Vassell, Zach Collins, 2025 Spurs 1st Round Pick, 2026 Spurs First Round Pick, and 2029 Spurs Second Round Pick

The Heat is officially Bam Adebayo’s team. Last year Bam averaged 19.3 PPG and 10.4 RPG, while being named an All-Star, All-Defensive 1st team, and finishing 3rd in Defensive Player of The Year voting. Jimmy Butler is already 35, which is 5 years older than the next Heat starter, revealing that the Heat are forming a new identity, which should include leaving Jimmy Butler behind. Obtaining 24-year-old Devin Vassell, who is only starting to tap into his potential, would help form this new Heat’s identity even more. Adding a solid backup center Zach Collins is a plus as well, as it is a for sure upgrade over aging Kevin Love and rookie Kel’el Ware. The Heat have made some great playoff runs with Butler in the past, but being a first round exit last year, the Heat are on the decline until he is gone. Lastly, the first-round picks will also help build up this young core, making them a very scary team in a few years.
The Spurs only have Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes for a short time, so they might as well try and make a championship push. The Spurs got three first round picks from the Hawks, so they can afford to give some up in a Jimmy Butler trade experiment. Butler has led the Heat to the finals twice and may have the ability to do it again, with a veteran core and a future all-time great. Butler will also be available to mentor top five pick Stephon Castle, who was the best pick in the first round in my opinion. The Spurs also have solid bench pieces in Tre Jones and Keldon Johnson, and an elite defender in Jeremy Sochan. The Spurs wouldn’t have signed Chris Paul to a one-year contract and traded for Harrison Barnes if they weren’t looking to make a push soon, and Jimmy Butler is the perfect piece to help make that push.
