Heath Miller of the Steelers talks about the infamous “HEATH” chants.
The Steelers’ legendary tight end appeared on Green Light with Chris Long
One of the most time-honored traditions for the crowds at Heinz Field (now Acrisure Stadium) over the last two decades has been the audible crowd chants whenever a Pittsburgh Steelers tight end catches a pass. The tradition began with Heath Miller, who was serenaded with chants of “HEATH” by the crowd every time he touched the ball.
Appearing on Green Light with Chris Long, the Virginia product discussed the special relationship he had with the fans.
“I remember the first preseason game,” Miller said. “It wasn’t as loud as it became, but people started yelling. You know, it was like a low, mumbly roar through the stadium when I caught the ball, and I remember [thinking] like, ‘Oh geez, did they want maybe someone [else or] maybe they [weren’t] happy with the pick when I was selected in the first round that year.’ But then I quickly realized, you know, they were saying my name. I think just being an introvert, I might have been a little bit embarrassed by it at the beginning… but I think throughout my career, especially toward the end, I kind of realized what a special bond that, not only the team has, but you know [the bond] I felt like I had with the fans and how much they appreciated what I brought to the team.”
