There’s been a huge amount of change at Chelsea since the new ownership came in but one stat has laid bare the sheer volume of it.
The Blues kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, which saw four of their summer signings make their debuts.
The club’s transfer strategy has drastically shifted over the last two years and there’s a real impetus on signing the best young talents from around the world rather than established proven players.
Against City the average age of Chelsea’s starting line-up was just 23 years and 180 days making it the second youngest by a team on the opening game of a Premier League season.
However, there was one stat which perfectly encapsulated the vast amount of change that has taken place at Chelsea.
Against City there wasn’t one player in the match day squad that featured in the Champions League win against Pep Guardiola’s side in 2021.
Thiago Silva left the club last summer, Reece James is both suspended and injured whilst Ben Chilwell was left out of the squad.
In just over three years the whole squad has changed, so no wonder there’s been issues and things haven’t clicked yet.
