Former Arizona offensive lineman Jordan Morganwas the only first round draft pick without a deal when Thursday began, but he was able to finalize his contract with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.
“He’s a natural on the edge,” Packers’ offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. “He looks comfortable out there. There’s obviously some technique stuff we’ve got to clean up, just like anybody, but yeah, I’m excited to work with him and just watch him and see. I wouldn’t say he’s a tackle, I wouldn’t say he’s a guard, I just want to see where he fits best for us and with our best five out there, so that may be at tackle. It might not be. But I’m excited to work with him and you can see his athleticism when he’s out there. He’s a pretty talented guy.”
It’s difficult to say where Morgan projects for the Packers, but Stenavich is excited about his prospects and the offensive line as a whole.
“Very excited about it,” he said. “I think it’s just a matter of putting the best group out there and there’s a lot of different combinations. We’ll see how it all shakes out. That’s one thing we’re always pretty intentional about is working guys at multiple positions to just see where they fit best. I think that’s kind of what we’ll be doing in OTAs and the early part of camp.”
Although the Packers are confident in Morgan’s physical ability, there is a large focus on his overall mental approach. “He’s got a long way to go in terms of just mentally,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said. “Physically, he has all the tools that you look for and we’re going keep pushing him and he’s got to understand that. I think he’s approaching it the right way and we’re going to continue to push him.”
