Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has displayed an aura of calmness and poise on the sidelines during his first year in Tuscaloosa.
While those are great qualities, fans have been waiting for him to get angry. After all, Nick Saban was legendary for his short fuse and disciplinarian approach.
According to fifth-year senior defensive lineman Tim Smith, DeBoer has broken out of his shell this week and changed his demeanor following the team’s upset road loss to Vanderbilt last Saturday.
“He’s buckled down these past few days,” Smith said. “I love it. I’m here for it.

It’s interesting to see him breaking that shell and understanding where he’s at now. We’re going to go ahead and get everything that we want to accomplish.
” Following that loss to Vanderbilt, this week provides a pivotal time early in DeBoer’s career to prove himself to Alabama fans.
How the Crimson Tide responds will be telling, not just for their upside for the remainder of the season, but for how the rest of the DeBoer era will shake out.
