Notable among the many standout performances in the Texas Longhorns’ romping of Florida over the weekend was redshirt sophomore running back Jaydon Blue’s big, big day.
In just five totes of the football, Blue recorded 60 rushing yards. He also managed to snag three receptions for a 67 yards receiving. As both a runner and a receiver, Sports Illustrated notes, Blue carved out at least one big play of 45 yards in each Texas offensive capacity.
It’s hard to imagine Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t aware he has an embarrassment of riches not just in the program’s quarterback room, but in its running back room as well.
Take sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner’s breakout so far (minus a slow day versus the Gators on Saturday) this season, as well as Blue’s presence, as case in point.
“You’re able to get Blue on the edge, you’re able to get Trey [Wisner] on the edge, and then you’re able to utilize both those guys in the passing game too, and that their real weapons receiving the ball for us,” Sarkisian said, per SI. “It’s a very versatile room that we have. We just have to make sure that we’re tapping into the versatility of all the players that we have.”
