JUST NOW ; Fever will find out their first-round playoff opponent on the last day of the regular season.
The Indiana Fever will need to wait until the final day of the regular season to know their first-round playoff opponent. But their possible opponents are down to two: the Connecticut Sun and the Las Vegas Aces.
The Minnesota Lynx clinched the No. 2 seed with a win over the Sun on Tuesday night.
The Connecticut Sun currently hold the No. 3 spot in the standings, and despite Tuesday’s loss, they are still in the driver’s seat to keep that spot. Connecticut is currently 27-12; all it will need to do to officially clinch the No. 3 spot is to win over the 13-26 Chicago Sky on Thursday night.
A potential Connecticut loss to Chicago, however, opens up the door for the Las Vegas Aces to take over the No. 3 spot. Las Vegas is 26-13 after a win over Seattle on Tuesday night and finish the season against the 9-30 Dallas Wings.
A Connecticut loss and Las Vegas win on Thursday would be the only scenario in which Las Vegas would take the No. 3 spot; both teams would be 27-13 in that scenario, and Las Vegas holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Connecticut.
Indiana lost the season series to Connecticut and Las Vegas this season, but the Fever picked up one win over the Sun following the Olympic break to finish 1-3 against them. The Fever were swept by Las Vegas.
The first round of the WNBA playoffs will begin on Sunday for all eight teams.
