We’ve seen only a few snippets of the work that’s been going on at the training ground so far, but the one thing that was immediately apparent was Enzo Maresca’s very much hands-on style. The new head coach is out there actively participating in drills — not all, but some — showing and not just telling what he wants his new charges to do.
It’s certainly a different style from his predecessor. Neither approach is inherently wrong, or inherently correct, valid or invalid, better or worse. But players often tend to appreciate a manager being in the trenches with them, in a way, and Levi Colwill is no exception.
“He’s on the pitch all the time. He’s proper hands on. I think if I was a coach, this is the best way to be, because you know how you want to play, and you can envision it perfectly. [He] seems amazing so far [and] hopefully he can just help us win more games and achieve more things at a team.”

This sentiment has been echoed by Christopher Nkunku as well.
“We are all happy to practice every training with him. Now it is just the beginning. We need to learn and to fix in every training the way he wants us to play. We are on this way to learn. If everybody has the idea of the coach to play, we will produce good football this year.”

Chelsea are coming to America this week; hopefully we can use this tour to keep learning what we need to learn even without our focus being fully on just training.
