Liverpool are doing “everything they can” to keep hold of Mohammed Salah amid speculation over his future, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Reds will sit down with him soon to discuss his role in their long-term future and where he sees himself.
This comes following Salah’s comments against Manchester United in which he revealed he had not had any conversations about the possibility of a new deal.
With just one year remaining on his current terms, there is a growing possibility that he could walk away for free in the summer of 2025.
Sources say that the winger is likely to demand a “bumper” new contract, and Liverpool’s hierarchy are willing to break their usual contract policy regarding players aged over 30.
There is also said to be a willingness on both sides to reach an agreement before too long.
Liverpool to enter Mohamed Salah contract talks ‘soon’ after new claim
Since arriving at Liverpool in 2017, Salah has gone on to make 352 appearances for the club, scoring 214 goals, grabbing 92 assists, and breaking countless records.
This season alone, he has scored three goals and provided three assists in three games, proving his powers are not fading with age.
He has also helped the club to win the Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, three League Cups, and the Premier League title.
However, there is a growing feeling that the longer they go without reaching an agreement, the more likely the winger is to move on next summer.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are keeping a close eye on his situation with a view to making him the face of the Saudi Pro League should he decide to leave England.
Concerns have also risen about how Salah would be replaced in the event he leaves Anfield.
There is an expectation that a big-name signing would have to arrive in his place which would be an expensive deal for the club.
Under the guidance of their new-look transfer team, Liverpool are keen to play things smart in the transfer window by not overspending or rushing into any deals.
As a result, many behind the scenes believe their best option will be to renew Salah’s deal, particularly given the form and fitness he has shown despite his age.
They are now expected to push to agree a new deal with the winger in an attempt to tie down his long-term future at Anfield.
In other news, Liverpool have made a behind-the-scenes Jarrad Branthwaite move.
