Chelsea may have several options in the transfer market as a replacement for Conor Gallagher this summer.
The Blues midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge ever since the transfer window opened.
Gallagher has yet to return to Cobham for pre-season training after being granted an extended holiday following his participation in the England squad at Euro 2024. Reports in recent days have speculated that Gallagher may not have a long-term future with Chelsea.
La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are reported to have an interest in signing the midfielder, but it remains to be seen what asking price Chelsea would set given the player’s contract expires next summer.
Should Gallagher depart then Chelsea could be in the market for a replacement. Macro Football have used analytics to determine which players have a similar style and ability to Gallagher.
Top of the list is Napoli star Frank Zambo Anguissa, who left Fulham to sign for the Serie A club in 2022. Anguissa has a 99.6 percent similarity to Gallagher according to the report which is the join-highest percentage of any player across Europe.
The other player with the same percentage is Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. However, the chances of the Anfield club allowing Jones to leave to sign for a Premier League rival remains highly unlikely.
The next player on the list is Girona midfielder Ivan Martin with a 96.7 percent similarity to Gallagher. He is followed by former Barcelona star Sergi Roberto with 94.9 percent, with the Spain international now a free agent after leaving the Camp Nou.
Finally, the last player on the report is Bologna star Lewis Ferguson with a 94.3 percent similarity to Gallagher. None of the aforementioned players have been linked with Chelsea, but if the Blues do seek a replacement for Gallagher then the list could provide some options for the club before the transfer window closes.
