Luke Little to IL, Javier Assad activated, and Ethan Roberts remembered
A flurry of Cubs roster moves before the doubleheader
It was announced after Friday night’s game that Javier Assad would be activated from the injured list to start Game 2 of today’s doubleheader, after Hayden Wesneski starts Game 1.
Here are the roster moves made to accomplish that:
So, after the doubleheader, either Ethan Roberts will be sent back to Triple-A Iowa, or Assad will be optioned, because with the All-Star break, his next start might be 10 days away.
It’s really too bad about Luke Little, as he had been pitching quite well in relief. This leaves Drew Smyly as the only lefthander in the Cubs bullpen, with Mark Leiter Jr. serving as a “lefty” of sorts, as he generally does well vs. LHB.
That’s the way the Cubs will stack up for today’s two games, with the first game scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. CT. The BCB game preview will post shortly, at 11 a.m. CT.
