The Miami football program moved up to the 10th-best 2024 transfer class joining its fourth-ranked recruiting class after a commitment from Tennessee edge rusher Tyler Baron on Tuesday night. Miami is now one of five programs nationally with a recruiting and transfer class ranked in the top 10.
Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas are the only other programs nationally with a top 10 2024 recruiting class and transfer class. Alabama has the second-ranked recruiting class and third-ranked transfer class. Oregon is third and second, Ohio State is fifth and ninth and Texas is sixth in both.
Miami has 27 signees in its 2024 recruiting class and added 15 transfers to its 2024 roster. Alabama has 28 and 15, Ohio State 27 and seven, Oregon 27 and 14 and Texas 22 and 11. Four of the five head coaches who lead programs with dual top 10 classes worked under Nick Saban.
Kirby Smart of Georgia, Mario Cristobal and Steve Sarkisian of Texas were all assistant coaches under Saban. Dan Lanning of Oregon was a graduate assistant in 2015 under Saban. Lanning became a full-time assistant under Smart before leaving Georgia to succeed Cristobal at Oregon in December 2021.
So Miami landed 3 of the top 10 (per on3) portal guys of the spring + a P5 starting LB and a talented G5 DB already familiar with their DC’s system.
Not saying it’s now or never but Miami is basically splashing the chips and twisting the Oreo right now. pic.twitter.com/mkqvnUdv52

The addition of quarterback Cam Ward from Washington State set the foundation for Miami to have a big spring in the transfer portal. Running back Damien Martinez transferring to Miami from Oregon State and the addition of Houston wide receiver Sam Brown likely doesn’t happen without Ward on the Hurricanes’ roster.
Miami has set the foundation for an elite 2024 offense. Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman, Michigan defensive tackle Simeon Barrow and Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill are significant additions for Miami defensively. Miami is all in on 2024. About half the transfers Miami added to its 2024 roster could become starters.
The 2024 Miami transfer class ranks ninth with an average grade of 88.93. Mario Cristobal and his staff added players that fit the culture he wants in addition to talented players. Several 2024 Miami players will have impacts this fall. The goal is to win in 2024 while continuing to develop young players for the future.
