Minnesota Lynx head coach and president of basketball operations Cheryl Reeve has publicly voiced her opposition to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid escalating tensions in Minneapolis. Following a series of fatal shootings involving federal immigration agents—including the deaths of U.S. citizens Renee Good on January 7 and Alex Pretti on January 24, 2026—massive protests erupted in the city, drawing thousands to the streets demanding an end to aggressive enforcement actions under the Trump administration.
Reeve attended a major anti-ICE protest march on January 24 that culminated at Target Center, the Lynx’s home arena. She shared photos from the event on social media, captioning one: “This is my city. #ICEOUT.” Her presence and post signaled solidarity with the community and protesters, highlighting her long-standing commitment to social issues.
The Lynx organization, alongside other Minnesota sports teams like the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins, joined a letter from local business leaders calling for de-escalation of tensions. Reeve emphasized the team’s history of advocacy, stating the current climate has challenged them to “lift our voices and stand with our affected communities to hold power to account.”
Fans at subsequent Timberwolves and Minnesota Frost games echoed the sentiment with anti-ICE chants, reflecting broader outrage in the sports community over the federal crackdown that deployed thousands of agents to Minnesota. Reeve’s actions align with other Lynx figures and LGBTQ+ athletes speaking out against what they view as excessive violence and overreach by ICE.
