It’s officially Trade Deadline SZN.
With a little over three weeks to go until the November 5 deadline, the internet is starting to fill up with trade content. Contenders who only need One Last Move finally have their answer. Players who could be on the move have been notified. If you want to see a player mocked to your team in a deadline day deal, chances are someone on the internet’s already written about it.
CBS Sports sure has, at least. In their latest big listicle of trade ideas, CBS Sports looks at a handful of different teams – and then assigns them fun trades that will obviously help all of them win the Super Bowl.
They were nice enough to consider the Packers as contenders, though, so they’re all right in our book. The trade they think the Packers should pull off is kinda out there, but that’s what the internet is for. Real life is for boring trades!
CBS Sports floats Browns’ Za’Darius Smith as Packers trade deadline target
“The Packers rank 20th in the NFL in pressure rate this season, so while the overall team looks primed for a playoff run, they could use a boost in that area. And maybe that could come from old pal Za’Darius Smith,” writes Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports. “The 32-year-old played three seasons with the Packers from 2019 to 2021 and was named to the Pro Bowl twice over that span, so there is familiarity here.”
The cynic in me thinks that CBS Sports is extremely aware of how many Packers blogs will want to aggregate them because of how well ‘former Packers player returns’ will play; the romantic in me is totally on board with it.
His exit from Green Bay was what it was, but it’s hard to deny how good he was: two of his three Pro Bowl nods came while in Green Bay, and he has more sacks with the Packers than he does with any of the other teams he’s played for. Smith made 25 sacks in his first two seasons with the team.
Like the article says, the Packers could use the help and the Browns are shuttin’ it down for the year. If it’s water under the bridge on both sides, this move would be a blast.
