Noni Madueke’s ‘very impatient’ admission could open door to Newcastle transfer

Newcastle are finalising a deal for Marc Guehi with Crystal Palace and are in the market for a right winger with young England star Noni Madueke a candidate - a player wanting first team football and who isn't scared to make a move

Noni Madueke’s future at Chelsea is in doubt after the London club’s spending spree – with Newcastle among the club’s ready to offer a loan rescue.

The right winger was an unused substitute for Chelsea when they lost 2-0 to Manchester City last weekend and faces a battle for game time among their bloated squad.

Madueke is not one to hang about to keep his career – and first team football – on track. Three years ago he gave an insight into the mindset that has guided his career from the age of 16 – saying: “I’m very impatient. I have the drive to be the best. I am never satisfied if I am not. I am the type to get angry if I am not. That is how I am.”

Newcastle could look to harness that determination and give Madueke a fresh start. Eddie Howe is searching for a new right winger. A loan deal is possible but said to be difficult.

Newcastle’s priority is to get a £70m deal for England defender Marc Guehi sealed with talks restarted on Wednesday afternoon. There is a good chance an agreement will be reached for the Geordies to break their transfer record.

To make it a good window, Howe also wants a right sided attacker. They are also adamant they will keep £70m rated Anthony Gordon despite Liverpool’s early summer. Howe is under no pressure to sell until January.

Youngster Madueke, in an interview with Mirror Sport while on England U21 duty three years ago gave an insight into how he turbo-charged his career. Aged 16, he walked away from Spurs’ age group sides, and turned down Manchester United , because he wanted to play in “man football” at first team level.

At 17, he broke into PSV’s first team in January last year, scored seven last season, and netted twice in August against Ajax. He’s racked up 60 appearances and 15 goal, before Chelsea bought his for £23m on a seven year deal in September 2023. The Barnet-born 22year-old explained: “At 16 year old I felt I was ready for a first team. I backed myself 100 percent. I am very impatient!

“The quicker you get young talents into first team football the quicker they get ahead of the talent of other nations. I have high expectations of myself. I feel I can be one of the best players in the league and that’s what I want to do.”

Manchester United were interested in him at one point and he confirmed: “Yeah when you are doing well there is always interest. The Premier League is the best league in the world and every young English player wants to be there.

“I am not someone who is afraid to venture elsewhere so whatever is best for my development, whichever country, I am a person who won’t be scared to take the leap.

“Ronaldo is the biggest inspiration for someone who is confident but backs it up on the pitch every time he steps out. All my idols, people like Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi and the new generation guys like Mbappe, they all play with a confident arrogance.

“That is something I like and try to implement in my game as well.”
