Oregon football will hold a candlelight vigil in Khyree Jackson’s honor.
Heartbreak, support, sadness, and love were just some of the emotions shared following the devastating loss of former Oregon Duck cornerback Khyree Jackson.
The Oregon football team shared multiple tributes to the cornerback who became a beloved figure around Eugene and at Autzen Stadium.
On Tuesday, the team posted that it would be holding a candlelight vigil for Jackson to both honor and celebrate his life.
The vigil is set to take place at Autzen Stadium on Wednesday, July 10 at 8 p.m. PT.
In just one year with the Ducks, Jackson proved his worth and earned a spot in the 2024 NFL Draft, selected in the fourth round by the Minnesota Vikings.
Over the July 4th holiday weekend, Jackson, who was with two former high school teammates, was killed in a car accident in Maryland.
The loss of the star player isn’t a new feeling for the Oregon community, which almost makes it even more tragic. Over recent years, the Ducks have lost teammates Spencer Webb, Fotu Leiato, Todd Doxey, and Terrance Kelly.
Head coach Dan Lanning has pushed the importance of community since taking over the Oregon Ducks program.
When Webb passed away just two years ago, Lanning led his team to the top of Spencer’s Butte in Eugene to honor the tight end.
“RIP Khyree… Love you [Khyree] at a loss for words. I will miss your smile. Great player better person,” Lanning shared on social media.
When the news of Jackson’s passing was first shared by ESPN and on social media, the Oregon football team posted a statement about the player and later a video tribute.
