Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has reportedly been taken back into custody following an alleged violation of his probation terms. According to multiple reports, Mahomes Sr. was booked into the Smith County Jail after authorities accused him of consuming alcohol, which is prohibited under the conditions of his sentence.
Mahomes Sr. is currently serving a five-year probation stemming from a driving while intoxicated case in February 2024. During that incident in Tyler, Texas, he was pulled over and later found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit. He was officially sentenced to probation in September 2024, with the understanding that a violation could result in a much harsher penalty, including up to 10 years in prison.
Footage from the 2024 arrest later surfaced, showing Mahomes Sr. speaking with police officers while in handcuffs. In the video, he repeatedly referenced his son, expressing concern about the timing of the arrest as Patrick Mahomes was preparing to compete in the Super Bowl. He acknowledged having consumed alcohol but insisted he was not intoxicated, pleading that the situation could negatively affect his son and the team during a critical moment of the season.
During the same encounter, Mahomes Sr. also attempted to explain issues surrounding the vehicle he was driving, stating it had recently been gifted to him and that registration paperwork was still pending. He voiced frustration that the situation could spark unwanted controversy, especially given his son’s high-profile status and the attention surrounding the Chiefs at the time.
Both father and son later addressed the incident publicly in an episode of ESPN’s documentary series The Kingdom. Patrick Mahomes shared that dealing with questions about the arrest during the Super Bowl period was difficult, but he believed the experience served as a wake-up call for his father. Mahomes Sr., for his part, described the episode as deeply humiliating and said he personally apologized to his son for becoming a distraction during one of the most important moments of his car
