This deal will give him an average annual salary of $41 million. However, the 76ers cannot finalize the deal until the conclusion of the NBA Finals, as teams are not permitted to negotiate before then.
The Philadelphia team can clear approximately $65 million in cap space this summer. Despite potential salary cap challenges, securing the contract of their 23-year-old star is a top priority for the 76ers’ front office.
Previous reports indicate that the franchise is also considering trading their first-round draft pick. The motive is to acquire a star player who can bolster the supporting cast around Maxey.
Tyrese Maxey’s Breakout Season Earns the Most Improved Player Accolade
Despite their early exit from the playoffs, eliminated by the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers saw a bright spot in Tyrese Maxey’s breakout 2023-2024 season. His impressive performance earned him the Most Improved Player award in his fourth NBA season.
The 2024 NBA Sportsmanship award winner played 37.5 minutes per game, averaging 25.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.0 steals across 70 regular-season games. His dedication and improvement each year since his draft with the Sixers in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft have been evident.
Maxey’s stellar performance continued in the postseason as well. He averaged 29.8 points per game, had a 59.5% true shooting percentage, and connected on 40% of his three-point attempts.
