Point guard for the San Antonio Spurs sends a message to Caitlin Clark
Chris Paul is nearing the end of his NBA career. At 39 years old, he signed a deal with the San Antonio Spurs to mentor the cornerstone of the next generation of hoops in Victor Wembanyama. Paul is widely regarded as one of the best point guards to ever play the game, and in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark is taking the league by storm with her incredible offense, which is reminiscent of Paul’s game. On Friday, Clark recorded her 317th assist, breaking the all-time WNBA single-season record. She is the runaway favorite to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and has been leading the way for the Indiana Fever.
Clark and Paul are both signed to State Farm and promote the insurance giant in advertisements, public appearances, and social media posts. When Clark broke the single-season record, Paul was quick to congratulate her. According to Paul, Clark was “born to assist.” The WNBA plays shorter games (40 minutes) and has only a 40-game season, so comparing NBA and WNBA stats is often pointless.
However, Clark’s 8.4 assists per game as a rookie is still better than five of Paul’s NBA seasons, including last year’s stint with the Golden State Warriors.

Clark has the potential to combine Paul’s elite passing with Stephen Curry’s all-time shooting and could become the best female basketball player of all time. With only one season under her belt, the sky is the limit.
