The Las Vegas Raiders’ running backs room will look very different in 2024, as the team lost Josh Jacobs in free agency to the Green Bay Packers and acquired some new faces.
Though Las Vegas’ pass-catchers are the biggest strength on offense, the rushing attack will be a prominent aspect of Luke Getsy’s offense, especially with the uncertainty at quarterback.
The Raiders’ run game will look to rebound from a rough 2023 campaign, where the team averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, which ranked 27th in the NFL.
With training camp on the horizon, let’s continue our training camp preview series, this time predicting which Raiders running backs will make the 53-man roster in September. If you missed our quarterback preview, click here.
Raiders roster prediction at RB
RB1: Zamir White
White started the final stretch of the 2023 season after Josh Jacobs suffered a quad injury and filled in nicely, rushing for 397 yards and averaging 4.7 yards per carry during Las Vegas’ final four games.
The former fourth-round pick’s intriguing blend of speed and power will flourish behind the Raiders’ underrated offensive line and give the unit an identity if the quarterback play is subpar.
“He’s a different cat,” offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said of White. “That is a speed that not many guys have. And, again, to be paired with that size that he has… I think Z’s just gonna take off, for sure, when we get to training camp.”

While he isn’t a household name yet, White has a chance to establish himself as one of the better backs in the AFC with an impressive 2024 campaign.
RB2: Alexander Mattison
After five seasons with the Vikings, Mattison signed a one-year deal with the Raiders in March.
The former Boise State standout has been inefficient over the past few seasons but will now be able to operate as an RB2, a role he thrived in during his days with the Minnesota Vikings.
Though he isn’t the most exciting player, Mattison is a fantastic backup for White due to his availability and versatility. The 26-year-old has missed just two games over the past three seasons and totaled 892 scrimmage yards (700 rushing) and three touchdowns in 2023.
An efficient 2024 campaign from Mattison would be a major plus to the Raiders’ ground game.
RB3: Dylan Laube
Laube and Ameer Abdullah will compete for the RB3 role, as the two are similar players. However, due to his potential and versatility, Laube gets the nod.
The former New Hampshire standout had an outstanding mandatory minicamp and even saw some first-team reps. He also caught the eye of running backs coach Cadillac Williams, according to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com.
“I think he has a bright future,” Williams said. “He’s wise beyond his years. He shows up like a vet… He can take what he learns from the classroom and apply it on the field. He’s always going to be in the right spots. Got really good hands, quick, explosive. Just a very cerebral player that can do a lot of things.”
Laube’s ability to return punts and kicks also gives him the edge over Abdullah, as the veteran didn’t have a role in the return game last season.
