Rio Ferdinand has slammed Chelsea for their treatment of Raheem Sterling and described it as wild with the Blues looking to move the winger on.
Sterling had a largely positive pre-season but was surprisingly left out of the match day squad for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Following his omission Sterling’s camp released a statement saying they were surprised and would be seeking clarity over his future, which came in for heavy criticism.
It’s been widely reported that Chelsea are open to selling Sterling but his huge wages and the fact he’s settled in London are two major stumbling blocks.
Sterling hasn’t had the easiest time at Chelsea and he was booed by Chelsea fans last season, but he’s believed to be a popular member of the squad.
Premier League legend Ferdinand has taken aim at Chelsea and described the treatment of the 29-year-old as wild and warned it could cause problems in the dressing room with Blues needing to find a resolution before things potentially get out of hand.
Chelsea treatment of @sterling7 is WILD…. Creating issues in their own dressing room surely?!!! #FreeSterling#CFC pic.twitter.com/cKbLLPqzO8
